Oop! My very first newsletter! I’m so happy you’re here. If you’ve subscribed, you probably already know my name is Roti, but here are a few more things about me:

  • I’m food obsessed, even my name is a food (but we can and will talk about that later).

  • I believe food is about community. For me that means hosting and cooking for my family and friends to celebrate the big and small moments in our lives.

  • I’ve been cooking for as long as I can remember, actually some of my earliest memories are in the kitchen. This past year, I decided to share some of my most crowd-pleasing recipes online.

So welcome to The Flavor Garden, my online hub for all things I’m cooking, eating, obsessing over in the kitchen. Here you’ll find exclusive recipes, hosting tips, and all the tea on my favorite kitchen goods.

Now that you’re a part of The Flavor Garden Family, lets go over some house rules:

  1. We live for food with flavor, so get ready for boldly seasoned dishes with lots of spice. Everyone’s different, so don't be afraid to pull back on the red pepper flakes or skip them all together.

  2. This isn’t the food you’ll find at “fruofruo” restaurants, I learned how to cook at grammy’s house.  These recipes are rooted in tradition and are born out of the nostalgic flavors I grew up with.

  3. We believe food is about creativity, we’re not afraid to add a twist to classic flavors and dishes.

  4. In this family, we wash our produce, rice, meat, AND poultry. Have some vinegar on deck, always.

  5. Not all salts are created equally. We swear by Kosher salt, but as a general rule, we recommend salting your food to taste.

The good news is you’ve joined the family at a special time. This season, I’m launching the Curry Series. My dad is from Trinidad and Tobago and my mom’s  family is from the South. To honor those parts of my culture, I’ve created 10 recipes that blend the best flavors of both worlds.

Curry is a staple in Caribbean households and the Black South has birthed some of the most iconic “American” dishes that we all know and love. Today, we are kicking off this marriage of flavors with a fusion of two cult classics. Dive into the flavorful first recipe of the curry series below:
