A Free Recipe To Brighten Up Your Summer
There’s something undeniably nostalgic about Jello shots—they’re playful, colorful, and instantly bring a sense of fun. For a recent pool day, I wanted to serve something that felt a bit more elevated than the usual plastic cup presentation. So, I swapped the containers for fresh fruit and it made all the difference.
Served in citrus halves, these margarita Jello shots feel a little more grown-up while still keeping the spirit of summer alive. They're bright, refreshing, and actually taste good. A simple twist on a classic that adds a touch of charm without much extra effort.
Ingredients
6–8 limes, halved and juiced
1 packet unflavored gelatin (about 2½ tsp)
½ cup fresh lime juice
¼ cup cold water
Agave syrup to taste
½ cup blanco tequila
2 tbsp orange liqueur (like Cointreau or Triple Sec)
TajÃn + a pinch of cayenne pepper (for garnish)
Instructions
Prep the limes: Slice limes in half lengthwise, juice them, and scoop out the insides. Place empty shells in a muffin tin to keep steady.
Bloom the gelatin: Sprinkle gelatin over ¼ cup cold water and let sit for 5 minutes.
Make the mix: Warm the gelatin on low heat until fully dissolved (1-2 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in lime juice, agave, tequila, and orange liqueur. Taste and adjust sweetness. Add more agave if you prefer it less tart.
Fill and chill: Pour the mixture into lime shells. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.
Slice and garnish: Cut each lime half into wedges. Dip the exposed jello edge into TajÃn mixed with cayenne for a spicy finish.
